It's On ('til the break of dawn, of course)

So more hockey. Almost broke Nate's spirit. Rough streak of games to start the day. And I can understand how he'd feel that way. But he rebounded (Dominic Hasek is the streakiest player in NHL history).

Game 115: St. Louis (Andy) 7 vs. Tampa Bay 3

So this is what Mel Gibson meant....

...in Braveheart. You know, his famed battle-cry as he is being castrated at the end of the movie. Where they leave way too much to the imagination. I mean, if they could strap a 10-inch prostetic dong on Markey Mark in Boogey Nights, why couldn't they cut a comparably-sized one from Mel Gibson in what was a much bigger-budget movie? (I just used the condensation from the bottom of my water glass to make the Olympic rings on the dining room table...) But for real. Done with finals. Done with school. Done with responsability. And hence...real, real ready for hockey:

Game 95: Edmonton (nate) 5 at Colorado 4 (OT) - Jaroslav Spacek = wraparound brilliance.
Game 96: N.Y. Rangers (andy) 5 at Nashville 1
Game 97: Calgary (nate) 4 at Ottawa 3 (OT)
Game 98: Washington (andy) 6 at Chicago 1
<20>
Game 99: Anaheim (Andy) 6 at Pittsburgh 5 (OT)
Game 100: New Jersey (Nate) 6 at Colorado 4
Game 101: Canada (Andy) 7 at Sweden 2
Game 102: St. Louis (Andy) 3 vs. Chicago 2
Game 103: San Jose (Andy) 3 at Nashville 2
Game 104: Ottawa (Andy) 6 at Montreal 2
Game 105: San Jose (Andy) 5 vs. Los Angeles 3
Game 106: Colorado (Nate) 2 vs. Detroit 1
Game 107: Montreal (Andy) 4 vs. Calgary 0
Game 108: Colorado (Nate) 4 vs. Boston 3 (OT)
Game 109: Pittsburgh (Andy) 4 at Buffalo 3 (OT)
Game 110: Calgary (Andy) 5 vs. Philadelphia 1
Game 111: Detroit (Nate) 4 at New Jersey 3
Game 112: Ottawa (Nate) 3 vs. Toronto 2

That's 17 new games, folks. Not to mention other random things we've done in the mean-time. But, I'm gonna give Nate 3 days to practice up, so he can stop humiliating himself in such a public forum.

TOTALS-------------
Games: Andy 58, Nate 51, 3 ties
Goals: Andy 392, Nate 357

The Finals Push

So we had our first final yesterday. 15 pages of Civ Pro later, and only 3 finals remained. OK. So, the games.

Game 89: Vancouver (Nate) 5 vs. Dallas 2.
Game 90: New Jersey (Andy) 5 vs. Edmonton 3.
Game 91: Colorado (Andy) 5 at New Jersey 4 (OT) - This was one of the best games of the entire series, no doubt.
Game 92: Carolina (Nate) 6 at Atlanta 4.
Game 93: Calgary (Nate) 4 vs. Montreal 3 - I lost a 3-1 lead in this game. I blame it on the Heineken.
Game 94: Pittsburgh (Andy) 6 vs. Phoenix 3 - Annihilated him. Outshot him like 3-1.

New Totals----------
Games: Andy 47, Nate 44, 3 ties.
Goals: Andy 318, Nate 307.

And the beat goes on...

So despite the impending doom of law school finals, Nate and I found enough time to fit in a little hockey.

Game 84: Calgary (Andy) 6 vs. Ottawa 1 - Nate proclaimed this to be the worst game he's ever played. It was really just one period, though. 5 in the 3rd will make things seem a lot worse than they really are.
Game 85: San Jose (Nate) 3 vs. Nashville 2 - Nate finally breaks the winning streak.
Game 86: Tampa Bay (Nate) 3 at Buffalo 2 - And starts one of his own. Before the game, I mentioned my concern over St. Louis, because he's really a game breaker in every sense of the word. And as you may have guessed, he had 2 goals, including the game winner.
Game 87: Vancouver (Andy) 3 at Dallas 2.
Game 88: San Jose (Andy) 3 vs. Los Angeles 2.

So 4 straight games that finished 3-2. And ironically, the score for the day was 3-2. It was a day of great games and lucky bounces. It could have easily been 4-1 Nate or 5-0 me. But ultimately the series stands as follows...

Totals------------
Games: Andy 44, Nate 41, 3 ties.
Goals: Andy 294, Nate 283.

Game 81: Pittsburgh (Andy) 6 vs. Anaheim 5 (OT).
Game 82: Montreal (Andy) 4 at Ottawa 2.

Nate's Soliloquy

Now that Nate has had an opportunity to clear his mind, we can back to the games. Well, first, I'd like to make a small handful of counter-points to Nate's absurdly prolix response to my most recent blog post.

First, those games were written on the standard yellow paper which we use for recording every game we've played, and were solely within Nate's possession since they were first transcribed. Curiously, though, they had been folded behind the other results, in a manner that would imply the pages contained something as mundane as a shopping list; yet they contained nothing else but the lowest point in Mr. Kostelnik's sordid past.

Oh, and to speak of revisionist history, Mr. Kostelnik also points to a win by New Jersey over Detroit as discounting a comment I had made. Ironically, the post was made at roughly 2 PM on Sunday, and this contest of which Mr. Kostelnik speaks occurred at somepoint after we left the library over seven hours later.

So while Mr. Kostelnik is correct in asserting that the tides have turned in our series, he does little to rebut the fact that he's an occasionally-careless and always-indignant opponent. So if the D00$hk4wk has nothing more to say, here are 3 more games:

Game 77: Dallas (Andy) 4 vs. Vancouver 2
Game 78: New Jersey (Nate) 3 vs. Detroit 2
Game 79: Ottawa (Nate) 4 at Philadelphia 2

Totals ------
Games: Nate 39, Andy 37, 2 ties
Goals: Nate 262, Andy 261

Games Lost & Found

So after many, many months, a set of games played but not recorded has been found. And good thing too. Becuase I won those games. And I got creamed today. Absolutely stomped. This is for nate, that I would mention the games 2 best players, Wes Walz and Marco Sturm. Yeah, that was sarcastic, but they beat my ass today.

Oh, and on top of it, I found the results of a side series that Nate and I played a while back. Now how this worked was that we had a fantasy draft of anyone in the game, and from there we played an 11-game series. In which I whipped Nate's ass. I wonder where those glory days have gone. He's figured me out, I suppose. But that's OK, because the series is still close, and there's a long way to go.

Oh yeah, and WASHINGTON SUCKS. Take that Nadia, you and your damn East-Coast Liberal Bias. The Capitals. Not even Ovechkin can save this team from the likes of Dainius Zubrus.

Anyhow, on to the results (Nate sucks):

First, the Side-Series, which unfortunately doesn't count towards our final totals, but still represents just a little bit of how Nate folds when he's playing a decent team.

Game 1: Medicine Hat Menigos (Andy) 5 at Moose Jaw Moosen (Nate) 4
First Star: Daniel Alfredsson (Med. Hat) 2 goals
Game 2: Medicine Hat (Andy) 5 at Moose Jaw 4
FS: Sidney Crosby (Med. Hat) 2 G, assist
Game 3: Moose Jaw (Nate) 6 at Medicine Hat 3
FS: Jarome Iginla (Jaw) goal, 2 As
Game 4: Medicine Hat (Andy) 2 vs. Moose Jaw 0
FS: Marty Brodeur (Hat) 19 saves
Game 5: Medicine Hat (Andy) 5 at Moose Jaw 4
FS: Alexander Ovechkin (Hat) goal, 2 assists
Game 6: Medicine Hat (Andy) 6 vs Moose Jaw 3
FS: Alfredsson (Hat) Hat Trick...Quite Fitting
Game 7: Moose Jaw (Nate) 4 at Medicing Hat 2
FS: Marty St. Louis (Jaw) 2 goals
Game 8: Moose Jaw (Nate) 3 vs Medicine Hat 2
FS: Paul Kariya (Jaw) 2 goals

So there it was, a decisive 5-3 win in what was an 8-game series. We just kind of stopped at the point, because it had become monotonous. Anyhow, all I know is I took care of bidness.

And back to the matter at hand:
Game 68: Japan (Nate) 4 vs Great Britain 3
Game 69: Tampa Bay (Andy) 3 vs Vancouver 2
Game 70: Vancouver (Andy) 5 at Ottawa 3
Game 71: N.Y. Islanders (Andy) 5 vs. Los Angeles 3
Game 72: Nashville (Nate) 3 vs. N.Y. Rangers 2
Game 73: Minnesota (Nate) 4 at Washington 2
Game 74: Colorado (Nate) 4 vs. New Jersey 2
Game 75: Montreal (Andy) 7 vs. Boston 6
Game 76: Pittsburgh (Nate) 3 vs. San Jose 2

The New Totals -----
Games: Nate 37, Andy 36, 2 ties
Goals: Andy 253, Nate 253

So, it's close. Oh, and by the way, we've now made unlimited overtime the standard. No more ties, no more shootouts. Just and interminable length of extra hockey to deal with every game.
